What we deliver…
Attracting New Businesses
We have leased two empty shop units in the city centre for use as pop-up shops for new businesses. We employ a consultant to help attract new businesses into vacant commercial premises.
Lobbying
The BID provides city centre businesses with a voice and a seat at the table in discussions with local and national governments. We regularly lobby the authorities on issues such as anti-social behaviour, drug-dealing and aggressive begging. In partnership with other Welsh BIDs, we successfully lobbied the Welsh and UK Governments on a range of issues during the Covid pandemic. The BID is represented on a number of city centre-related groups, including the Newport Offer, Safer City Centre, Newport Business Against Crime and Pub Watch.

Savings and Advisory Service
Run with our colleagues at Place Support Partnership, this service aims to save BID levy payers money on their energy, telecoms, merchant fees and other outgoings. Consultations with experts from our Savings Advisory Service are free to BID levy payers. To date, the service has identified savings in excess of £50,000 for businesses in Newport city centre. Training & Skills
We have provided or sponsored training on digital marketing, anti-terrorism, GDPR and TownNet radio among others. We continue to seek ways to provide BID members with free or discounted training.
Sport and Activity
We have worked with the Dragons, Newport County AFC, Newport Live, Run 4 Wales, British Transplant Games and others to encourage use of the city centre by visitors to key sporting events. We arranged for the Champions League trophy to be on show in the city centre ahead of the Cardiff final in 2017.
