What we deliver…

Events

The BID delivers the annual Countdown to Christmas lights switch-on event, attracting thousands of additional visitors into the city centre.

Since 2015 we have also delivered an Urban Beach, brought the Champions League trophy into the city centre, staged a Classic Car Show, and sponsored or funded a host of fantastic events including the Big Splash festival, the City of Newport Half Marathon, the British Transplant Games, Pride in the Port, Record Store Day, the Big Sesh, the Chartist Festival and many more.

Diverse Vinyl has benefited from many of the BID’s cost saving initiatives, from shopfront improvements to utility bill contracts. We’ve also been able to stage a number of fantastic events in the city centre with Newport Now’s support, enjoyed by hundreds of music fans across the city."

Improved Shopfronts

Our Shopfront Improvement Grant is available to all BID levy payers who wish to improve the exterior of their premises. An application form is available here.

In partnership with Newport City Council & Welsh Government, we have dressed some of the longer-term empty shopfronts in the city centre using artwork from primary school pupils.

Empty shops project

The BID employs M4 Property Consultants on a part-time basis to find new businesses for empty shops & offices in the city centre.

Dan Smith from M4 contacts owners, landlords, agents and potential new tenants to act as an on-the-ground conduit for all parties.

The project means the BID effectively acts as a key-holder for long-term empty commercial units, making it easier for potential tenants to view empty properties.
