First Christmas market hit by weather

Unfortunately, the first of our 12 Christmas street markets in Newport city centre planned in partnership with Green Top Markets for today has had to be cancelled due to the weather.

Met Office forecasts for wind gusts mean it would be unsafe to pitch the traders' gazebos.

However, there will be street food on offer near the Christmas tree on Bridge Street.

We expect tomorrow's market to go ahead, though it may finish early due to a yellow weather warning being in place from 3pm.

We will make on-the-day decisions for Saturday and Sunday based on the weather warnings.

Sadly, we cannot control the weather and safety is paramount.
