Newport city centre hosts UK Pride this weekend

This Saturday sees the return of the annual Pride in the Port festival across a number of city centre venues.

This year, Newport is also the host city for UK Pride. This is the first time UK Pride has been hosted in Wales.

As in previous years, the BID is one of the sponsors of the event.

The organisers of the event have asked us to share with you the key timings for Saturday. These are as follows:

• 0930-1030: Pride Pals at Utopia cafe in Kingsway 

• 1000-1100: Quiet Hour

• 1000-1700: Queer Market at Friars Walk, Usk Plaza and Kingsway

• 1030: Parade gathers in John Frost Square

• 1100: Parade - from John Frost Square, through Llanarth Street, Commercial Street, High Street and Upper Dock Street before ending at the Wave sculpture on the riverfront

• 1100-1700: Community Stage in John Frost Square hosted by Newport City Radio

• 1200-2100: Main Stage on the riverfront (near the Wave sculpture)

Organisers would love to see shop fronts decorated throughout the city centre, but particularly along the parade route.
