It’s time to ‘shine a light on local’ and nominate your favourite Newport city centre business – and a £500 Newport Now Gift Card is on offer for the winning business and the person who nominated them.
With Small Business Saturday taking place this Saturday, Newport Now Business Improvement District (BID) is encouraging people to vote for their favourite local business in the city as part of a national competition.
Help Us Find The UK’s Favourite Local Business launched today and runs through to December 21. Any local business in Newport city centre can be nominated, with the business receiving the most votes across the UK being crowned as the nation’s favourite.
The competition is the latest initiative to encourage local shopping through the Newport Now Gift Card, which launched in the city centre in 2017.
Over 50 businesses accept the Newport Now Gift Card including independent shops, venues and restaurants such as Assets Jewellery, Bar Piazza, Davies Florist, La Belle Femme Boutique and The Dolman Theatre.
The business crowned as the UK’s favourite business later this month, and the person who nominated them, will receive £500 of gift cards for one of the 80-plus Town & City Gift Card programmes in the UK and Ireland, such as the Newport Now Gift Card.
Newport Now BID manager, Kevin Ward, said: “Newport city centre has an array of unique businesses and this competition is an opportunity for us to shine a light on local, and celebrate our favourite Newport shops, restaurants, salons and venues, especially as we approach Small Business Saturday.
“Any Newport city centre business can be nominated in the competition, whether it’s a florist, a record store, a hairdresser or a café. To enter, people just need to give the name of the business and a few words about why they are their favourite business. It would be great to see lots of nominations for businesses in Newport in the competition, and hopefully the winning business to come from the city too.”
The competition is backed by Miconex, founders of the Town & City Gift Card concept.
